Webinars to the rescue!
Organisations are facing unprecedented challenges because of COVID-19 and the need for social distancing. With so many employees now working from home, HR departments are turning to workplace wellness webinars to help them solve these novel problems.
The coronavirus epidemic is forcing workplaces to address two new problems:
- How to deliver training to employees while social distancing
It’s no longer possible to put a group of employees in a meeting room with a training facilitator for a few hours. - Alleviating problems that arise when staff work from home.
There are many new issues:- Motivation and productivity,
- Occupational Health and Safety issues resulting from bad ergonomic conditions in home offices, and
- Mental health issues arising from the lack of social contact and the fear of contracting the coronavirus.
Merv Neal hosted an engaging and insightful online workshop on managing teams during COVID times. We were given some tips and also encouraged to think about the specific needs of our team and develop our own strategies which would work best in our situation. Thank you Merv for helping us with some great strategies that we are working towards to help us get through these challenging times.
Workplace webinars are the solution
Workplace webinars can help with all of these problems. A training facilitator can now use a simple video conferencing tool to deliver a live webinar to employees anywhere in the world. The facilitator can see the faces of the participants and hear their questions, so the experience can be every bit as interactive and effective as if they were in the same room.
During a live yoga webinar, the teacher can see the postures of the participants and give them personal instructions for how to adjust their poses. A laughter workshop facilitator can see how the participants are engaging, and adjust what he’s saying to successfully guide them to the desired outcome.
Mental health worsens in difficult times
During this stressful time, employees are at heightened risk of developing mental health problems. Two groups of people are especially vulnerable:
- people who were on the edge of mental health issues before the pandemic,
- people who are living alone and are now spending weeks on end with very little interaction with anyone.
It’s not just the fear of what effect the coronavirus might have on their own health and on their loved ones. It’s also that, during normal times, some people are tormented by self-deprecating thoughts, and now because there are fewer distractions, those thoughts are more pervasive.
Employers are in a unique position to help their employees through these difficult times.
1-on-1 mental health coaching
HSG offers blocks of 1-on-1 coaching (minimum 20 hours). Your staff can use our online booking system to schedule 30 or 60 minute sessions, or they can phone or SMS us with an urgent request and we’ll ensure a time slot is made within the next 24-48hrs.
Mental health workshop webinars
Most people know very little about mental health issues and how to prevent or alleviate them. What’s more, many people are reluctant to seek help, or to even acknowledge that they might be having difficulties. Some people won’t even admit it to themselves. This is why workplace mental health workshops can be so valuable: they can reach people who would normally not receive this life-changing information. Employees can’t avoid being exposed to valuable learning which may benefit them for the rest of their lives.
HSG delivers mental health webinars that can cover a wide variety of mental health topics. In a webinar we can cover one or two of the following subjects:
- Demystifying mental illness
- Myths & misunderstandings
- How depression affects men & women
- Anxiety disorders
- How to help someone affected by a mental illness
- Is stress a factor?
- Working for better mental health
- Lowering susceptibility to stress
- Confidently facing challenges
- Effect of lifestyle on mental health
- Practical tools to minimise anxiety
- Practical skills for reducing workplace stress
- Maintaining a healthy and positive attitude
- Where to seek help
My experience from start to finish has been very positive with Holistic Service. Lisa did a fantastic job explaining the options and following up. Kyla also did a great job presenting, was very engaging, and articulated herself very well… Thank you 🙂
Best time for mindfulness meditation webinars
This is the best time ever to provide mindfulness / meditation training to your staff. Why? Because this is when you’ll get the biggest return on investment. Why? Because mindfulness / meditation is a skill that improves with practice, so as an employer, what you’d like to do is to make a relatively small investment in a workplace meditation training program, which plants a seed that your employees will take home and keep investing in for the rest of their lives. Your organisation will then continue to reap the benefits of your employee’s continued investment in meditation. With everyone confined to their homes, your employees are now more likely to take up a regular meditation practice—they’re more likely to water that seed and reap the rewards.
Many people have always wanted to start a regular meditation practice but could never find the time in their busy schedule. But now that their entire social schedule has been cancelled, they finally have the time. They might even welcome it as something new and interesting to break the boredom of their unexpected hermit lifestyle.
HSG provides two types of workplace meditation webinars:
- Introduction to Meditation / Mindfulness Webinar
We spend most of the time explaining what it is, the benefits, and the techniques, and then the rest of the time meditating.

Most of the time is spent actually in meditation. The meditation leader guides you through the meditation, and will answer any questions that participants may have.
